Brandi Iberia talks to Vanessa D. Johnson — a registered nurse, licensed massage therapist, certified lactation specialist, and doula. She leads Birth Workers United, Incorporated, a nonprofit committed to bridging the gap between emotional and medical care during pregnancy and beyond. Vanessa and her team are preparing for the 5th Annual “It Takes a Village: Community Baby Shower & Resource Fair” happening Saturday, September 13th at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society. This event not only celebrates expecting families but also raises awareness about maternal and infant health in our city — especially the disparities affecting Black mothers and babies.
