Here in Milwaukee, the disparities around infant and maternal health are especially alarming, particularly for Black mothers and babies. But there’s an upcoming event that’s bringing the community together with resources, education, and support. It’s called the Improving Infant and Maternal Health Event, happening Saturday, September 20th from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Embassy Center MKE. It’s free, it’s for expectant mothers, new parents, fathers, and support partners, and it’s all about bridging gaps, offering culturally responsive care, and making sure families have the resources they need. Brandi Iberia spoke with Dalvery Blackwell, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the African American Breastfeeding Network, Joshua Liston, Founder and Executive Director of Dad Doula, LLC, Keisha Williams, psychotherapist with Healthy Start for Growing Families, and Elder Deborah Bent, Team Leader for The Healing Network Ministry.
