October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease.
Breast cancer is still the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Only lung cancer kills more women each year. There remains a large racial gap in mortality, with African-American women having 42 percent higher death rates compared to whites.
When breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is more than 99%.
Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get a checkup! It might save your life!
If you or someone you know is a Breast Cancer survivor,
call the Jammin’ 98.3 Survivor Hotline 414.978.9411 OR send us a message on Open Mic on the new Jammin’59 98.3 App.
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will shine a light on these courageous people!
