YMCA Martin Luther King, Jr. Poetry Contest
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired a generation to work towards change in our country. President Elect Barack Obama is inspiring a new generation. Once again this year Milwaukee’s youth ages 5-18 are encouraged to express themselves in the YMCA Martin Luther King, Jr. Poetry Contest.
Interested children should write an original poem based on the theme, a quote from Dr. King: “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
The finalists in each age group will be invited to the Jammin’ 98.3 studios to record an audio version of their poem. Our listeners will then be asked to vote for their favorite. The winners will present their poem at the annual King Breakfast on Monday, January 19 and will also win a $100 U.S. savings bond.
Entries are due to the YMCA no later than Friday, December 5.
