Shout Out a Successful Scholar Athlete!

Shine the spotlight on an exceptional young man or woman who competes in the classroom and on the field / court / track every day.  Nominate him or her for the Jammin’ 98.3 Scholar Athlete of the Month! 

If you know a young person in middle or high school that competes with integrity on and off the field and has a great work ethic, he or she could be the next winner courtesy of Cass Street School, Marcus Theaters and Jammin’ 98.3!

May 2009 - Quiana Washington

May 2009 Scholar Athlete: Quiana Washington

School: Menomonee Falls High School

Grade: 11

Sports: Fast Pitch

Grade Point Average: 5.1 on scale of 6.0

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

Quiana, maintains honor roll status while incorporating 2 honor classes into her class schedule. She was recently inducted into the Menomonee Falls High School National Honor Society based on her academics, community service and leadership. Quiana also recently was invited to participate in the YMCA Black Achievers College Tour. Quiana is co-captain of her JV fast pitch team where she gets to demonstrate her leadership and motivation skills. She is one of the biggest cheerleaders for her teammates when she is on the sideline. Quiana also tutors her teammates and friends in areas when they need help. Quiana exhibits the characteristics of a scholar athlete and is very deserving of this award.

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

Because of Sydney’s athletic accomplishments from conference leading up to state, her cumulative GPA of 4.052, and her involvement in the National Honor Society and other clubs, she is the true definition of a scholar-athlete. But, she has another side. She is a role model to all. Sydney is a strong-minded young woman who strives to make herself and those around her better in any way she can through athletics, academics, or friendship.

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

Najeal is a exceptional young man. He gives he all in both football and basketball where he displays his leadership skills and motivates his team win or lose. He has always excelled in academics so, that he was selected to participate in the Marquette Upperbound Pre-College program. Always giving 100% to his studies he motivates himself as well as his classmates to strive to do better. His competiveness in both the classroom and in sports has made him shine as bright as the stars. He is a true blessing to his family and his siblings really look up to him.

School: Milwaukee School of Languages

Sports: Basketball and Track

Grade Point Average: 3.4

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

Charles excels not only in basketball and track but also academics.  During this election he went and knocked on doors to encourage people to get out and vote.  He is very devoted to his family not only his younger sister but also younger cousins in which he is an ideal role model.   He received the MVP award for basketball last year.  He received a 3.4GPA on his report card.  He is an exceptional young man, I'm proud to nominate him for the Scholar Athlete Award!

School: Bradley Tech High School

Sports: football, basketball & baseball

Grade Point Average: 4.0

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

He deserves this recognition because he is a 4.0 student, great athlete, and ranked 10 out of 313 sophomores. Michael has maintained a 4.0 for two yeas. Even throughout him playin all three sports. He is a leader and always lead by example. Michael is a freshman Transitional Coach. A lot of people look up to him. He is confident in what he does but never too confident to ask for help when needed. In sports his hard work pays off. He starts on the field(football) where he plays cornerback and he also starts on the courts (basketball) where he plays guard. He is a pitcher in baseball and he was second team all conference in football. He is very respectful and we are so grateful for him.
December 2008 - Paul Clemons III

School: Riverside University High School

Grade: 11

Sports: Basketball

Grade Point Average: 3.5

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

He does the right thing, and is always respectful of adults and the young ladies. Paul is especially helpful to his grandmother and aunt, to include completing his chores around the house.  While maintaining his grades, he plays basketball. He may not be the most aggressive on the court, but he is aggressive when it comes to being an effective citizen. We need more young men like Paul.
November 2008 - A'Donis Wilson

November 2008 Scholar Athlete: Duane A'Donis Wilson

School: Brown Deer Middle School

Grade: 8

Sports: Basketball & Football

Grade Point Average: 3.47

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

This quarter, Duane has achieved a 3.4 GPA and has been identified by his teachers as a leader in the classroom.  Duane was a quarterback for Brown Deer Youth Football and is a point guard for Brown Deer Middle School and AAU Wisconsin Playground Elite.  He was recognized as MVP at Marquette's '08 summer basketball camp and was ranked 12th in the nation by The Hoop Scoop Inc.
October 2008 - Tahje Whittley

October 2008 Scholar Athlete: Tahje Whittley

School: Bradley Tech

Grade: 10

Sports: Track 

Grade Point Average: 3.5

Why does your scholar athlete deserve this recognition?

Tahje workes hard in school and on the track.  She has set a record at her school and is six in the State of Wisconin in the 400 meter.  She also runs for the AAU (Mustang Track Club). I think she is the type of child you are looking for.  She is a blessing to her family.  She is also a very sweet girl. She ofter puts others before herself.  There is nothing she want do for you.
