Whitney Houston fans turned away from grave site

Whitney Houston fans were turned away from the late superstar's final resting place in New Jersey on Monday after cemetery officials became concerned about the large crowds.

The "I Will Always Love You" hitmaker was remembered in a star-studded, invite-only memorial service on Saturday, attended by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Oprah Winfrey and the singer's cousin Dionne Warwick.

She was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield on Sunday and the grounds were open to the public this week to allow devotees to pay their respects to the soul icon.

Fans began passing through the cemetery early on Monday to lay flowers and trinkets at Houston's grave, which does not yet have a tombstone, but police were called to close off the site to the public by 3pm local time due to growing crowds.

Police sources tell NBC New York officers will be patrolling the grave site around the clock for the next month.

Houston died on Feb. 11. She was buried next to her father John Russell Houston, who passed away in 2003.
