Chris Brown: I would never joke about assault shame

R&B star Chris Brown has fired back at reports he joked about his infamous 2009 assault arrest while trying to land a date with a woman at the Grammy Awards gift lounge.

Event bosses outraged many stars and music fans by inviting the Kiss Kiss singer to perform at the Grammys and handing him the Best R&B Album trophy on the third anniversary of his infamous fight with ex-girlfriend Rihanna, which landed him in court on assault charges.

Things got worse for Brown on Monday when an unnamed woman told the media he had tried to hit on her with a sick pick-up line.

She claims he said, "Can I get your number? I promise I won't beat you!"

But the singer has now released a statement dismissing the story.

He writes: "That is absurd and absolutely not true. I did not say that nor would I joke about that."
