HOUSTON (AP) — Singer Patti LaBelle’s bodyguard has beaten an assault charge.
A jury in Texas has acquitted Efrem Holmes in a 2011 confrontation with a drunken man at a Houston airport terminal.
Trial evidence said Richard King had a blood-alcohol level nearly three and a half times above the legal limit in Texas — and didn’t remember what happened the day of the incident.
Surveillance video and trial testimony suggest King approached LaBelle and verbally abused the performer when her son tried to block his way. King punched the son and Holmes stepped in and slugged King several times.
LaBelle has filed a countersuit in the case.
