Homeless Shelters in Need of Health & Hygiene Products

Several Milwaukee area homeless shelters are in need of health and hygiene products like toothbrushes & paste, non-alcohol mouthwash, razors & shaving cream, hair care products, spray deodorant, lip balm, baby products, feminine products, laundry supplies and first aid supplies.
Drop off your donations between now and June 7 at: Milwaukee Area Labor Council, 633 S. Hawley Raod, any Milwaukee Fire Department Station or United Way, 225 W. Vine Street.
The drive is organized by the Milwaukee Area Labor Council.
Reach the Juneteenth Day Attendees – Be a Vendor This Year

The 42nd Annual Juneteenth Day Celebration is Wednesday, June 19 on King Drive.
If you’d like to participate as a vendor at this year’s event, applications are being accepted NOW.
Every vendor needs to read the introductory letter and the guidelines. Then fill out an application.

Let our veterans know they are appreciated by donating DVDs in “DVDs 4 Vets.”
It’s easy – just donate new or used DVDs that will be made available to veterans, especially to those with limited access.

Join the “Heart 360 Get to Goal Hypertension Program” and have your blood pressure taken twice a month at any of their convenient locations. Then a health coach will work with you to explain your numbers and help you get where you need to be.

FREE Meals Available for Low-Income Children

Learning and good nutrition does not end when school lets out. The USDA Food Service program provides free nutritious meals to low-income children when the school doors close.
Stop by any of the following locations: Blessed Savior East Campus on N. 55th street, Holton Youth and Family Center on E. Burleigh, Academy of Excellence on S. 12th and Parklawn Christian Academy on N. 46th.

Volunteer for the Sisters Networks “Gift of Life Block Walk”

The Sisters Network Inc. Milwaukee’s annual “Gift for Life Block Walk” provides unique and important community outreach about breast cancer. This program puts breast cancer survivors and volunteers together to canvas door-to-door on Saturday, June 15.
Volunteers will be provided with a scripted message about early detection and treatment and an information bag to deliver door-to-door. Information about free or low cost mammograms, additional services and healthy lifestyle promotion materials are included.
The community needs to hear why African American women have critical concerns about the devastating impact of breast cancer in Milwaukee.

The Prescription Advocacy & Referral Service (or PARS) Program at the Social Development Commission helps income-eligible residents of Milwaukee County obtain free or low-cost prescription medications from participating pharmaceutical companies.

Garfield Avenue Festival Youth Talent Competition

Direct Supply is honored to host the 2013 Garfield Avenue Festival Youth Talent Competition on Friday, July 19.
The winners of the competition will perform on the Garfield Avenue Festival Stage on Saturday, June 20. The competition is open to 13-18 year olds. All performances and music must contain positive material as the Garfield Avenue Festival is a positive, family friendly event.
In order for performers to participate in the talent competition, completed applications must be submitted no later than Friday, June 21.
Custer High Reunion for Classes 1995-2005

The Custer High School Class of 2003 is hosting a reunion for the classes of 1995-2005 on Saturday, July 27 from 7pm-1am at Aura, 1011 N. Astor Street.
Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased in advance at Royal Images, 52nd & Center. No tickets will be sold at the door. Cocktail attire is required.
