It’s a fact.  Children in our community are going to bed hungry tonight.  That’s why Kohl’s Cares and Hunger Task Force have partnered to create “Kohl’s Serving Up Supper for Kids.”

Through this program, kids 18 and under can eat supper this summer at supervised locations like schools, parks and community centers throughout Milwaukee.

Run/Walk for the Hungry

Help feed Milwaukee’s hungry by running or walking during this year’s The Capuchins’ Run/Walk for the Hungry to German Fest on Friday, July 25 at 7pm.

All proceeds from the event go to feed the hungry and homeless at St. Ben’s Community Meal and House of Peace.  Register as an individual or a team today.

The Capuchins’ Run/Walk for the Hungry to German Fest is a 5K run and 2 mile walk that last year had over 3,100 participants.  The run is on a USATF certified course, chip timed and professionally managed. The walk is completely handicapped accessible along the lakefront in downtown Milwaukee.

After the run/walk all registered participants receive a $5 beverage/food card to use that evening at German Fest. Entry is free to everyone that evening so you can bring a large crowd to cheer you on.

The 9th annual Capuchins’ Run Walk for the Hungry to German Fest 5K run and 2 mile walk will be held Friday, July 25 at 7p on the Lakefront. Proceeds are shared by the Capuchin ministries, St. Ben’s Community Meal and House of Peace, in order to feed the hungry.

Participants receive: German Fest admission, a commemorative T-Shirt, $5 Food/Drink Card, a 2 for 1 Coupon to return to German Fest on another day or night. PLUS: All registered participants are entered into a drawing for prizes, awards and more!

Free ACT Preparation Classes

High school students looking to maximize their score for the ACT college entrance test are being offered FREE sessions to help them get ready for it.  The Education and Training Program at the Social Development Commission will hold ACT Wings Preparation workshops on July 12 and July 26.

The two Saturday half-day sessions will provide practice exercises in all five test areas for the exam.  The goal of the sessions is to help high school students do their best on the ACT test which is used for college admissions as well as financial aid.

In Need of Backpacks?

For the 15th consecutive year, the BackPack Coalition, Inc. will provide backpacks and school supplies to students with financial constraints in Waukesha County to help them participate and succeed in school.

Each year the BackPack Coalition organizes, collects, assembles and distributes approximately 2,000 backpacks with grade appropriate school supplies to students in grades K-12 throughout Waukesha County. Backpacks and school supplies are provided free of charge from contributions donated by individuals, families, groups, churches and companies. If you would like to help, you can donate at the “Fill The Bus” event that will take place on Saturday, August 2 from 9:00-2:00 at local Walmarts in Pewaukee, Delafield, Waukesha, Mukwonago, and Muskego.

These services are for residents of the Westlawn community so you can get some exercise, reduce air pollution, save money on gas and have some fun!
