Milwaukee Boys and Men of Color Week 2014

Monday, October 27th, 2014 - Saturday, November 1st, 2014 - 12:00 am

With the national spotlight on Milwaukee for ranking among the worst in the nation in unemployment, health disparities, incarceration rates, and low educational outcomes for minority males, the first annual Boys and Men of Color Week, which will align with President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, will aim to lay the groundwork for action and community investment.

The first of its kind in the nation, Milwaukee’s Boys and Men of Color Week will take place October 27 through November 1, and will have a heavy focus on leadership, funding, capacity building, fatherhood and male engagement. This powerful, weeklong series of events will focus on improving outcomes for minority males and is the only event of its kind to unite funders, community leaders and policy makers to collectively explore this critical cause.

• Sun, Oct 26 – Day of Prayer, Healing and Fellowship for Boys and Men of Color

• Mon, Oct 27 – Creating a Cooperative Vision for Boys and Men of Color in Milwaukee

• Tue, Oct 28 – Community Day of Dialogue

• Wed, Oct 29 – Leadership Symposium: Community Call to Action
Leaders in Milwaukee will gather to determine a shared direction that will lead towards collective solutions to the opportunity gap faced by boys and men of color.

•  Thu, Oct 30- Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee 2014 Conference: Building Opportunities for Boys & Men of Color
Challenges faced by Black, Latino and Native American boys and men – those most disproportionately impacted by racial disparities in many areas of life – also affect families, neighborhoods and the social and economic fabric of the entire community. The Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee’s biennial conference will build and strengthen the capacity of local nonprofits to improve opportunities for boys and men of color.

• Fri, Oct 31  & Sat, Nov 1 – 9th Annual Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit
The annual Milwaukee Fatherhood Summit is the largest gathering of men and fathers in the state drawing an average of 1,000 participants each year. The event brings together the Milwaukee community to generate resource connectivity and support for fathers young and old in the areas of employment, education and training, driver’s license recovery, children support, case management, healthcare access, and more.
